18th century Lake District holiday cottage

Ellis Howe is a beautiful, traditional Lakeland cottage, surrounded by fields, with superb views of Coniston Old Man (2635 feet) and the fells from every window. It is in Torver, a hamlet in the heart of the Lake District National Park in the north west of England, two miles from Coniston and within walking distance of Coniston Water, the Lake District’s third largest lake.

Ellis Howe has been awarded a Visit Britain 4star rating; it is equipped to accommodate five people; it is a “non-smoking” cottage and we do not accept pets.

A feature of the cottage is the dining room extension, with an oak floor and an attractive gallery, which allows you to dine in comfort, whilst enjoying glorious uninterrupted views of Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag. The gallery has proved to be a fun ‘den’ in which children can play!

Update January 2022

After being unable to let or visit the cottage regularly in 2020, we have spent most of the last year refurbishing the cottage. The outside was painted, but we discovered that the fasciaboard on one of the gables needed to be replaced, so scaffolding was erected and the repairs were finally completed in October. However Storm Arwen came along at the end of November; three heavy earthenware chimney caps were blown off, and one bounced twice down the roof damaging some tiles. The damage is about to be repaired and the windows in the dining room extension are also about to be replaced.
