Ellis Howe is a beautiful 4 Star luxury Cumbrian holiday cottage located in Torver close to Coniston in the Lake District National Park.This self catering country cottage is secluded but not isolated and offers a peaceful retreat away from the busier areas of the Lake District. There are stunning views from every window as it is surrounded by fields and has an uninterrupted view of the Old Man of Coniston.
As a VisitBritain 4Star accommodation , Ellis Howe is comfortably and very tastefully furnished for up to five people with double,twin and single bedrooms- all with luxury mattresses ,duvets and quilts.
A restored 18th Century period cottage , Ellis Howe has many original l features such as flagged floors, window shutters, ceiling hooks, original doors, window seats and ceiling beams. To give that extra dimension to a traditional cottage there are Laura Ashley furnishings in every room and Farrow and Ball colours throughout.

Ellis Howe has the advantage of being close to many places of interest yet is situated away from the busier locations of the Lake District. It has the added advantage of having unobstructed and superb views of Coniston Old Man and the surrounding fells and peaks.
An interesting feature of Ellis Howe is the large oak floored dining room with oak dining furniture. It has a marvellous and unimpeded (weather permitting!) view looking out onto the slopes of Coniston Old Man and the surrounding peaks and fells. Watching the changing weather and colours on the Old Man is as fascinating as it is dramatic.
The cottage is very comfortably furnished. An AGA multifuel stove in the living room adds a warm and magical touch on a cold night. A supply of fuel is provided as well as all electricity. There are electric storage heaters throughout as well as additional wall mounted heaters in all the bedrooms. All linen is provided as well as luxurious cotton towels.
Most household supplies, such as dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and firelighters are supplied.
In the event of inclement weather, the cottage provides a wide range of entertainments such as LCD SmartTV/DVD, Freeview, WiFi/Broadband, DVDs ,CD player, CDs, games, and a well stocked library of fiction, local interest books,maps and guides.
Ellis Howe offers luxury Visit Britain 4 Star self catering accommodation, and as such Ellis Howe has a well equipped kitchen for guests who love to cook. Alternatively there is a well regarded pub/restaurants in the village, the Wilsons Arms. We even provide a torch to help guests down the road!
There is an enclosed cottage garden in which guests may enjoy the scenery and watch the wildlife. The cottage is supplied with a good range of natural history books to help identify the local flora and fauna. The garden is visited by a wide range of birds which are attracted to the bird feeders – even the occasional woodpecker. Often an owl or hawk keeps an eye on the cottage. A heron is a frequent visitor to the stream in the field adjoining the dining room whilst buzzards and hawks hunt overhead.
Ellis Howe is a superb base from which to experience the delights of the Lake District. There are many walks and climbs in the area which are accessible directly from the front door, from a gentle scenic stroll for the less energetic to challenging climbs for the fell climbing enthusiast.
Previous guests using Ellis Howe as their base have included serious rock climbers and fell walkers, yachtsmen, pony trekkers , anglers, hot air balloonists, and wild life enthusiasts. Torver Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an internationally important Special Area of Conservation for its varieties of wetland plants and dragonflies. There are Neolithic stone circles on parts of Torver Common.
