Ellis Howe is a luxury holiday cottage in Torver close to Coniston Water and located a few miles from Windermere. This  self catering country  cottage is secluded but not isolated and offers a peaceful alternative to the centre of Windermere.

Ellis Howe has the advantage of being close to the places of interests and attractions of the Windermere area without the worry of parking or crowds. It has the added advantage of superb views of Coniston Old Man and the surrounding fells and peaks.

Ellis Howe is very comfortably and tastefully furnished for up to five people with double,twin and single bedrooms. As appropriate for an 18th Century period cottage , Ellis Howe has many original features such as flagged floors, window shutters, meat hooks, original latched doors ,window seats and ceiling beams. Tastefully appointed,there are Laura Ashley and Ashley Wilde furnishings in its rooms and Farrow and Ball colours throughout.

A particular feature of Ellis Howe is the large oak floored dining room with an oak dining table. The room has with fantastic views looking out onto the slopes of Coniston Old Man. Watching the slopes and colours of the Old Man change with the weather is a relaxing and fascinating pastime!

The living room features an AGA wood/multifuel burner which provides a warm welcome at the end of a long day on the fells or just to be snug on a cold night. Electricity, heating and fuel are included. The cottage has a wide range of entertainments such as LCD SmartTV/DVD, WiFi Broadband,FreeView, DVDs, CD player/Radios, CDs,games books, maps and local guides- just in case the weather is wet!

There is a small enclosed garden in which guests may enjoy the scenery and to watch the wildlife. The cottage is supplied with a good range of natural history books to help identify the local flora and fauna. The garden is visited by a wide range of birds- even a wood pecker comes to chase away the smaller birds. A heron fishes the nearby Torver Beck whilst buzzards and hawks hunt overhead.

Coniston Cottage Holiday

There are many walks and climbs in the area which are accessible directly from the front door. These offer a whole range of walks from a gentle scenic stroll for the less energetic to challenging climbs for the fell climbing enthusiasts. Torver Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and an internationally important Special Area of Conservation for its varieties of wetland plants and dragonflies.
